HP warns that attackers are using “agentic AI” themes to spread browser malware

HP’s September threat report says attackers are disguising malicious browser-extension activity as AI trading tools and are continuing to use QR-code phishing to move victims onto less-protected devices.

HP published its latest Threat Insights Report on September 17. The company says researchers observed campaigns that used interest in agentic AI and crypto trading to persuade users to install malware or malicious browser extensions.

The report is a security-research update rather than a change to HP warranty or PC support terms. Customers should use official HP and browser-vendor channels for software, drivers and extensions and should avoid granting unexpected remote access to a device.
