About Clip Studio Paint

Clip Studio Paint was first launched in 2012 by Japanese software company Celsys. The application grew out of more than three decades of Celsys graphics-technology research and development and is positioned for illustration, comics, manga and animation work. It supports workflows ranging from sketching and painting to multi-page comics, lettering, 3D reference tools and animation, although exact features differ between editions, device platforms and current versions.

Celsys reported in 2026 that Clip Studio Paint had been used by more than 60 million people worldwide, a figure that includes free-trial users and mobile/Chromebook downloads, with more than 80% of users outside Japan. The app is currently available in 11 languages. Those usage figures should not be presented as the number of paying subscribers because Celsys explicitly defines the total more broadly.

Licensing is more complex than a single purchase model. Depending on platform and product version, users may encounter annual or monthly plans, Update Pass access and perpetual licenses for supported Windows/macOS versions. Mobile and tablet licensing differs from desktop perpetual licensing.

Official support is provided through the Clip Studio Support site, with dedicated sections for licenses, purchases and refunds, installation, materials, accounts, error messages, data recovery and device migration. Users can submit support inquiries after signing in, while people unable to use a Clip Studio account can email support@celsys.com. Celsys also uses the support site to publish known issues and fixes, making it the best source for current technical-status information.

Celsys publishes official international Clip Studio Paint accounts on X, YouTube, Instagram and TikTok. Current 2026 company releases identify the handles directly, including @clipstudiopaint on X and @clipstudioofficial on Instagram and TikTok. Those channels are useful for feature news, tutorials and events; technical or billing problems should still be routed to the official support team.
