About Fanatical

Fanatical is a UK-based digital retailer focused on officially licensed PC games, bundles and related digital entertainment. The business has a longer history than the Fanatical name itself. Focus Multimedia Limited was founded in 1995 and spent years selling PC software and games on physical media before launching the digital store Bundle Stars in 2012. Bundle Stars was renamed Fanatical on November 1, 2017 as the store expanded beyond discounted bundles into a broader catalog of individual game keys, new releases and other digital products.

In 2021 Fanatical became part of Fandom, while Focus Multimedia Limited continued as the legal operating company identified by Fanatical. Current company material says the store works with more than 1,900 official publishers and has sold more than 150 million official keys, with millions of customers worldwide. Those are company-reported scale figures rather than product guarantees, but they help distinguish Fanatical’s model from grey-market key marketplaces. Fanatical states that its keys are sourced from official publishers and developers. That does not mean every code works everywhere or on every platform.

A buyer still needs to check the activation platform, region restrictions, operating-system requirements, edition, downloadable-content dependencies and any account prerequisites shown on the product page. A Steam key, Epic Games Store key, publisher launcher code or other activation method can follow different redemption steps, and a product restricted to one country or region may not activate elsewhere. Digital goods also have different return rules from ordinary physical retail. Once a key is revealed, activated or otherwise consumed, refund eligibility can be limited, so customers should verify the title, platform, region and hardware requirements before exposing or redeeming a code.

Bundles introduce another layer because one purchase can contain multiple keys with different platforms or redemption windows. Fanatical’s build-your-own bundles and fixed bundles can also change frequently, so an older review or screenshot should not be treated as evidence that a specific game is still included. The company’s support model is mainly ticket-based. Fanatical maintains a Help Centre and a support-request system for account, key, order and technical questions. It explicitly warns users not to trust unofficial phone numbers presented elsewhere as customer support, and it does not position a public telephone line as its ordinary support route.

That is important for a category where scammers sometimes pose as game-store representatives. Customers should enter account or payment details only on the official Fanatical site and avoid sending game keys to people claiming they need to “verify” them. Account security also matters because a Fanatical account can contain purchased keys and order history; reusing passwords or sharing screenshots of unrevealed keys can create avoidable risk. Fanatical is best understood as an authorized digital retailer rather than a gaming platform in the same sense as Steam or a publisher launcher.

It sells licenses or keys that are generally redeemed on another service, so the retailer controls the sale and delivery of the key while the platform or publisher controls game activation, servers, patches and many technical issues after redemption. If a problem occurs, the correct support team depends on whether the issue concerns the Fanatical order or the game/platform itself.
