About IONOS

IONOS is the principal hosting and cloud brand of IONOS Group SE. Its corporate roots reach back to 1&1, founded in Germany in 1988; the current IONOS name was introduced decades later as the hosting businesses evolved and combined. The company serves customers ranging from first-time website owners and freelancers to agencies, online retailers and enterprises. Its consumer and small-business catalogue includes domain registration, shared and WordPress hosting, website and online-store builders, professional email, Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace resale in supported markets, SSL certificates, backup and marketing tools.

The cloud portfolio adds virtual and dedicated servers, storage, networking, databases, Kubernetes and other infrastructure services. These are different products with different control panels, administration demands and support boundaries, so a review should identify the exact plan rather than treating “IONOS hosting” as one uniform service. A domain registration establishes the account holder's right to use a name for a paid term; it does not create a website by itself and it is not permanent ownership. Hosting supplies space and computing resources, while a site builder or content-management system supplies publishing tools.

Email, privacy, security and backup may be bundled, optional or billed separately. Promotional introductory prices commonly change at renewal, and contract periods, setup charges, taxes and cancellation deadlines vary by product and country. The order confirmation and contract details inside the customer account are therefore more reliable than an old advertisement. Customers should confirm the regular renewal price, minimum term, included domains, mailbox limits, storage, traffic policy, support level and restore options before purchase. Domain transfers also involve registry rules, authorization codes, transfer locks and expiration timing; cancelling a hosting plan does not necessarily cancel or transfer the associated domain.

Website owners remain responsible for their content, software updates, legal notices, licences and application security. A managed product may cover more platform maintenance than an unmanaged server, but “managed” does not remove the customer's duty to protect credentials, maintain application compatibility and understand what data is backed up. Server and cloud users should review region availability, resource billing, snapshots, outbound traffic, service-level commitments and administrative access. Deleting a resource or letting a contract expire can make data recovery impossible after retention periods end, so independent backups and tested restoration procedures are prudent.

IONOS offers a Help Center, account-based support and, in several markets, a personal consultant model. Account authentication is important because billing, domain control and DNS changes can affect an entire business. Customers should sign in through ionos.com or the correct national IONOS domain, enable available two-factor protection and distrust messages that demand an urgent renewal through an unrelated payment page. IONOS publishes a dedicated method for checking whether an email is authentic and maintains service-status information; these are better sources than unverified outage posts or phone numbers copied from ads.

Support for an IONOS-supplied third-party product can be divided between IONOS and the software vendor, and migration assistance may have defined technical limits. A useful complaint records the contract ID, product, incident time, affected domain, error message and steps already taken without exposing passwords or authorization codes. Cloud performance claims should be judged against the purchased resource class, data-centre region and workload, not a generic benchmark. Similarly, website-builder ease of use is a different question from developer control over a virtual server. IONOS Group is publicly listed in Germany and is part of the United Internet group structure, but customers interact with regional contracting entities and terms.

A durable profile should preserve that distinction, describe the company's 1988 roots without implying that the IONOS name existed then, and avoid freezing temporary prices or product bundles into permanent facts. The strongest current evidence is the regional product page, order summary, contract documents, Help Center, status page and authenticated account notices.
