About Marriott Bonvoy

Marriott Bonvoy is the loyalty program for Marriott International’s participating hotels, resorts and related travel products. It became the company’s program name in February 2019, replacing the legacy Marriott Rewards, The Ritz-Carlton Rewards and Starwood Preferred Guest names after those programs had been brought together. Marriott’s current program terms explicitly use February 2019 as the effective start of Marriott Bonvoy, so the program should not be given Marriott International’s much older corporate founding date. Bonvoy sits across a large portfolio of hotel brands and can also extend into selected travel, experiences, credit-card and partner relationships.

The key word is “participating”: a property carrying a Marriott-affiliated brand does not mean every rate, stay, service or transaction earns points or receives every member benefit. Eligibility depends on the program rules, participating property status, qualifying rate, booking channel, member account and sometimes the individual brand or property. Marriott defines Official Marriott Channels to include Marriott websites, the Marriott Bonvoy mobile app, participating properties and Marriott customer engagement centers. Booking through an eligible official channel is important because some third-party travel-agent or online-travel-agency rates may not qualify for points, elite-night credit or on-property benefits.

The reservation confirmation should therefore be checked for the booking source and rate terms rather than assuming a Bonvoy number automatically makes any reservation qualifying. Members can earn points and elite-night credits under the current rules and can redeem points for eligible awards, but earning rates, award pricing, elite thresholds, promotional bonuses and partner-transfer terms are time-sensitive. An evergreen profile should describe the mechanisms without freezing them at a particular 2026 value. Elite benefits can also depend on the brand and property. A benefit described generally as late checkout, breakfast, lounge access, upgrades or a welcome gift can have exceptions or different implementations, and availability-based benefits are not the same as guaranteed entitlements at every hotel.

Members should review the benefit chart and property details for the specific stay. Account security matters because Bonvoy accounts can contain points, upcoming reservations, personal information and stored preferences. Marriott’s help center provides separate resources for login problems, account management, bookings, billing, hotel services, offers and partnerships. Its current support article says the U.S. and Canada Customer Care Team is available 24/7 at 1-800-535-4028, while global members can use country-specific loyalty and reservation numbers. Marriott also provides a secure Contact Us form and encourages members to sign in first so account details can be routed correctly.

Property-specific issues may be better handled by the hotel itself; Marriott’s help guidance explains how to find the property phone number and other contact information from the hotel page or app. This distinction is useful after a stay: missing points, a program-account problem and a hotel bill error may involve different teams even though they all touch Bonvoy. Marriott Bonvoy credit cards are issued with financial partners and are governed by separate cardholder agreements; card billing or credit questions should go to the card issuer, not hotel customer service.

Similarly, airline mileage transfers and other partner transactions can follow partner-specific processing and cancellation rules. Marriott’s program rules are detailed and are periodically updated, so disputed earning or benefit questions should be checked against the version and terms applicable to the stay. Hotel portfolio size, redemption prices, promotions, credit-card offers and elite-benefit details can change and should be verified on Marriott’s official program pages.
