About Sandals Resorts

Sandals Resorts is a Caribbean all-inclusive resort brand founded in Jamaica in 1981 by Gordon “Butch” Stewart. The first property was created after Stewart purchased the Bay Roc hotel in Montego Bay and redeveloped it into Sandals Montego Bay. From that single resort, Sandals grew into the flagship adults-focused brand within Sandals Resorts International and became closely associated with couples-oriented all-inclusive vacations in the Caribbean. Gordon Stewart died in 2021, and current leadership includes his son Adam Stewart as Executive Chairman of Sandals and Beaches Resorts.

The broader resort family also includes Beaches Resorts, which is designed for family travel, along with other hospitality properties and programs. Sandals and Beaches should not be treated as interchangeable simply because they share the same founder and corporate family. Sandals’ core positioning is adult, couples-oriented all-inclusive travel, while Beaches is family-focused. Resort choice matters because “all-inclusive” is not one identical package across every property. Sandals resorts can include accommodation, multiple restaurants, beverages, entertainment, selected land and water sports and airport transfers, but the exact restaurants, room categories, activities, transfer arrangements and facilities vary by island and resort.

Spa services, excursions, private transfers, premium experiences and certain other extras can involve additional charges. Customers should read the page and booking confirmation for the exact property rather than assuming that an amenity offered at one Sandals resort exists at another. Room categories can also differ significantly in size, view, location, service and included features. A premium suite or butler category can have benefits that a standard room does not. Travel logistics are another important layer. A resort stay can be booked directly with Sandals or through a travel adviser, tour operator or other channel, and flights can be purchased separately or as part of a broader package.

Cancellation, change and refund rights depend on how the trip was booked, the applicable rate and any third-party components. A guest should keep the complete booking confirmation and identify which company controls each element before requesting a change. Travel insurance or protection products have separate terms and exclusions and should be read independently from the resort’s cancellation policy. Sandals operates across multiple Caribbean destinations, and entry rules, health requirements, local taxes and transportation conditions are country-specific. Guests are responsible for checking passports and other travel documentation.

Weather and hurricane risk can also affect Caribbean travel, making flexible planning and current destination information important. Sandals publishes central reservation and existing-booking support, including the 1-888-SANDALS number in supported markets, with regional contact options and online tools for payments, check-in and trip extras. On-property issues should generally be raised with the resort team while the guest is still there so staff have an opportunity to address them. The company also operates the Sandals Foundation, established to support education, community and environmental initiatives in the Caribbean, but philanthropic activity should be kept separate from claims about the quality of an individual stay.

Temporary resort counts, promotions, award claims and seasonal packages should remain on Sandals’ live site. Travelers comparing resorts should focus on the exact island, room, inclusions, transport, cancellation terms and total trip cost rather than assuming every Sandals property provides the same experience.
