The airline was founded in 2000 and originally launched as Virgin Blue. It later adopted the Virgin Australia name and, after restructuring in 2020, repositioned itself as a value carrier while continuing to invest in its fleet, digital service and customer experience.
Virgin Australia describes itself as Australia’s second-largest airline group. Velocity Frequent Flyer is its loyalty program, with more than 13 million members and redemption options extending beyond Virgin Australia’s own network through international airline partners.
Passenger support is handled through the Guest Contact Centre and online self-service tools for bookings, changes, baggage and travel questions. Separate channels are provided for Velocity members, business-flyer customers, media, investors and other corporate enquiries.
