About CCleaner

CCleaner is a software brand focused on device maintenance, cleanup, performance and related utilities. Its own company history dates the launch of CCleaner to 2004. The product was created by Piriform, which later added utilities such as Recuva, Defraggler and Speccy. Piriform agreed to join Avast in 2017, and the brand’s current About page states that CCleaner became part of Gen in November 2023. Gen Digital is therefore the relevant current parent-company context, while older pages that describe CCleaner only as a Piriform or Avast product reflect earlier stages of the ownership history.

CCleaner now offers software for Windows, Mac and Android, along with products or services aimed at business and managed-device environments. The exact modules depend on platform and subscription. Windows editions can include cleanup, software and driver updating, startup or performance controls and other maintenance functions, while feature availability on Mac or Android differs. A feature described in a current Windows product page should not automatically be attributed to every CCleaner edition. Free and paid versions also need to be distinguished. Paid plans can include additional automation, support or bundled functionality, and subscription terms can change by product, market and sales channel.

Customers should read the checkout page and renewal terms tied to their own purchase rather than rely on an old comparison table. Subscription management is especially important because CCleaner uses recurring licenses for many paid products. Its support documentation explains that purchases may be associated with a Cleverbridge reference number and that subscription management can be handled through the designated portal. Cancelling renewal and uninstalling the software are different actions: removing an application from a device does not by itself cancel a paid subscription. Users should keep the order email and reference number, confirm the account email used at checkout and use the official subscription-management or support paths.

Support practices have also changed over time. CCleaner’s current Contact page directs customers to its Help & Support route, business sales, partnerships and press contacts. Older web pages and forum posts may mention support email addresses that are no longer monitored, so a directory should not keep presenting a legacy inbox as the primary contact method after the company has moved support into its online support center and ticket/chat workflow. Device-cleaning software deserves conservative use. Removing temporary files can free storage, but cleanup tools should not be treated as a substitute for backups, operating-system maintenance, malware protection or professional recovery work.

Registry or system changes can have consequences if the user does not understand what is being removed. CCleaner itself distinguishes its maintenance tools from antivirus protection. Users should download installers only from ccleaner.com or an approved store, verify prompts carefully and avoid “support” callers offering remote access to fix a problem. Corporate usage figures and download totals on marketing pages are time-sensitive and should be dated. The durable profile is that CCleaner launched in 2004, grew from Piriform into a broader utility suite and now sits within Gen Digital’s consumer-software portfolio, with official product, subscription and support information centered on ccleaner.com and support.ccleaner.com.
