About WinZip

WinZip is one of the best-known commercial file-compression utilities for Windows and has expanded well beyond its original ZIP-file interface. The product traces its history to Nico Mak's software business and the first WinZip release in 1991. Today WinZip is delivered as part of the Alludo software portfolio, while current WinZip legal pages continue to identify Corel Corporation as the legal entity behind the site and WinZip trademarks. The current product family includes tools for creating and extracting archives, encrypting files, managing local and cloud content, backing up data, sharing files and, depending on the edition, additional PDF or system utilities.

Plan names and bundled applications change frequently, so an evergreen profile should not treat a current feature list, trial length or subscription price as permanent. WinZip is commercial software, and customers should distinguish a perpetual license for an older product generation from a current subscription or suite. An activation code, registration key and account subscription are not necessarily interchangeable, and upgrades can have separate eligibility rules. The official Support Center provides knowledge-base articles, registered-product lookup, downloads, patches and a ticket submission route. WinZip's contact page directs technical and customer-service questions to that Support Center rather than publishing a general support telephone line.

A separate legal imprint lists Corel Corporation at 333 Preston Street, Suite 930, Ottawa, Ontario K1S 5N4, Canada and publishes 1-844-759-9903 and impressum@winzip.com for consumer and administrative contacts, while explicitly saying support inquiries should go through WinZip Support; those legal contacts should therefore not be misrepresented as ordinary technical support. WinZip Computing also publishes a U.S. mailing address at PO Box 540, Mansfield, Connecticut 06268. Customers should preserve the order email, license or activation information and exact product/version when opening a case. They should also be cautious of third-party download sites or unsolicited “support” callers because file utilities are frequently imitated or bundled with unrelated software.

Installation media should come from winzip.com or an authorized source, and passwords used to encrypt archives should be stored safely because forgotten encryption credentials may not be recoverable by the vendor. WinZip's ownership branding has changed over time, including the transition from Corel corporate branding to Alludo, while the product name has remained stable.
