About Cotton On

Cotton On’s story starts before its formal retail launch. Founder Nigel Austin began selling denim jackets from the back of a Ford Bronco at Geelong’s Beckley Market in 1988. The first permanent Cotton On store opened in Geelong in 1991, which is the clearest establishment date for the retail brand and the date used throughout the group’s current “Est. ’91” heritage material. Keeping those two milestones separate avoids the common error of treating the 1988 market experiment and the 1991 store opening as the same event.

The core Cotton On label focuses on casual, trend-led womenswear, menswear and accessories inspired by the company’s “Aussie lifestyle” positioning. It sits inside Cotton On Group alongside other brands and concepts such as Cotton On Kids, Cotton On Body, Rubi, Factorie, Typo, Supre and Ceres Life. Those labels share a corporate group but are not simply departments of the Cotton On storefront; product ranges, returns and local availability can differ by brand and market.

Cotton On Group remains privately owned and is based in North Geelong, Victoria. Current group materials describe operations across around 20 countries with a large international store network and roughly 20,000 team members. The more stable point is that Cotton On has grown from Geelong into a global multi-brand retail operation.

Customer care is regional. The Australian help center currently offers chat, email and phone support, listing customerenquiries@cottonon.zendesk.com and 03 8737 9388. Cotton On Group separately publishes corporate, media and support-office contacts such as reception@cottonon.com.au and pr@cottonon.com.au. Those corporate addresses are not the right first route for a normal order or return issue; shoppers should use the help center for the market where the purchase was made.

Cotton On also maintains public social identities under the Cotton On name, including Facebook, Instagram and X. Those accounts are useful for collections, campaigns and community content but regional customer service should remain the primary route for order-specific questions.
