About Chegg

Chegg was founded in 2005 by Iowa State University students Aayush Phumbhra and Osman Rashid as a lower-cost textbook-rental business. The company later shifted toward digital services, launching eTextbook capabilities in 2012, going public on the New York Stock Exchange in 2013 and expanding its online study platform in the following years.

Chegg’s current student products center on digital study support rather than textbook rental. Offerings include study help, subject explanations, math tools, writing and grammar assistance, citation-generation features, mobile apps and AI-assisted learning experiences. Product packaging changes over time, so a paid subscription should be checked for the exact tools and usage limits included at purchase.

Some Chegg content combines software, AI and human-created or expert-reviewed material. That makes the service useful for practice and explanation, but students still need to follow their school’s academic-integrity rules and verify answers rather than treating generated output as automatically authoritative.

Account, billing, cancellation and subscription questions are handled through Chegg’s official Help & Contact flow. Cancellation normally stops future renewal while preserving access through the already-paid period, but purchases made through Apple, Google or another third-party channel can require cancellation through that provider instead of directly with Chegg.
