About Giant Food

Giant Food opened in Washington, D.C. in 1936 and is recognized by Ahold Delhaize as the city’s first supermarket. From that single-market beginning, the chain developed into a regional grocery business serving the District of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia and Delaware.

The stores combine full-service grocery departments with everyday household goods, prepared foods and, at many locations, pharmacy services. Giant also supports online ordering, store pickup and delivery, so availability, fees and fulfillment options can differ by address and store.

Giant Food is part of the Ahold Delhaize USA family of grocery brands. It is distinct from The GIANT Company, the Pennsylvania-based sister brand whose history begins in 1923. The similar names make that distinction important when checking store locations, customer-service information or company history.

Customer questions are routed by subject through Giant Food’s online help and contact system. Product concerns may also use the number printed on Giant-branded packaging, while pharmacy matters and store-specific issues are best handled through the relevant store or pharmacy. Official social channels are useful for promotions and brand updates but are not a substitute for account or order support.
