About Farmers Insurance

Farmers traces its history to 1928, when John C. Tyler and Thomas E. Leavey opened a one-room office in downtown Los Angeles. The founders believed farmers and ranchers presented lower automobile risk and should receive preferred rates. From that initial auto-insurance focus, the Farmers name expanded into a broad U.S. insurance operation serving personal and commercial customers.

“Farmers Insurance” is not the legal name of one insurer issuing every policy. Farmers describes the term as a trade name for a group of affiliated insurers, with Farmers Insurance Exchange among the principal insurance entities. Depending on state and product, a policy may be underwritten by a different Farmers-affiliated company. That distinction is important for complaints, claims and regulatory questions because the exact underwriting company shown on the declarations page controls the contract.

Current Farmers products include auto, home, renters, umbrella, specialty and business insurance, with additional life and financial products available through relevant entities or partners. Coverage, discounts and underwriting vary by state.

The current Farmers contact page lists 888-327-6335 for the main Customer Care Center and 800-435-7764 for the 24/7 Farmers Claims Call Center. Separate numbers exist for commercial payments, life insurance and certain group programs. Policyholders can also use My Farmers or contact their assigned agent. Claims and billing are kept as distinct support routes because sending a loss report to a general sales channel can delay service.

Farmers has long used public social identities including @WeAreFarmers on X and Farmers Insurance on Facebook, with official company materials also referencing Farmers Instagram accounts. These are brand and communications channels; account credentials, policy numbers and claim-sensitive information should stay within authenticated Farmers support systems.
