About Mutual of Omaha

Mutual of Omaha was organized in 1909 as Mutual Benefit Health & Accident Association and was authorized to issue health and accident insurance in Nebraska in 1910. The company grew from that regional health-and-accident business into a national insurance organization. Its long-running Wild Kingdom media franchise, first launched in 1963, became a widely recognized part of the company’s public identity but is separate from its insurance contracts and customer-service operations.

Today Mutual of Omaha offers insurance and financial products across the United States. Depending on the product, coverage can be issued by Mutual of Omaha Insurance Company, United of Omaha Life Insurance Company or another affiliated entity. For example, the company’s life-insurance pages identify United of Omaha Life Insurance Company as the underwriter for certain products. Customers should therefore use the legal company named on the policy rather than assume every product is issued by Mutual of Omaha Insurance Company itself.

The company currently reports more than 6.7 million policies in force and more than 6,000 associates nationwide. Its official company facts also describe operations in all 50 states. These are organization-level scale figures; they should not be interpreted as the number of individual customers or as an indication that each product is sold in every state under identical terms.

Mutual of Omaha’s support center routes users by relationship and product. The current Contact Us page lists 800-775-6000 for individual policy owners and 800-655-5142 for people covered through an employer. Life-insurance sales use a separate number, and specialized Medicare, dental, provider and group-benefit contacts can differ. This routing structure is important because a generic “Mutual of Omaha phone number” is not sufficient for every policy type.

The company maintains public social profiles across major networks and publishes company news through its newsroom, but policy changes, claims, beneficiary information and account questions should be handled through secure support or the appropriate product team.
